In 2018 IATA Resolution 753 came into effect, causing the industry to increase its baggage tracking capacities. It is a real turning point for the industry as airlines and airports begin to unlock the value of tracking data while 4.36 billion travelers checked in more than 4.27 billion bags.

>From June 2018, member airlines, who represent 83% of global air traffic, will be required to keep track of each bag and to share that tracking information with all parties involved in delivering those bags back to passengers at their final destination. The total number of mishandled bags each year has plummeted 47% from 46.9 million in 2007 to 24.8 million in 2018. As a result, the annual bill footed by the industry has dropped 43% to US$2.4 billion, (US$4.22 billion in 2007).

Supporting this evolution, MBAviation has implemented the Amadeus Baggage Reconciliation System (BRS) in 6 international Airports belonging to its community since October 2018 and totaling 186,373 (end August 2019) loaded bags and is eager to address new projects on the strength of this experience.

Additionally, MBAviation provides access to SITA WorldTracer® which is developed in cooperation with IATA, offering a simple, global solution for reporting and tracing lost baggage. WorldTracer® reduces baggage repatriation costs by matching baggage faster and at a lower usage-basis cost.
That’s why more than 500 airlines and ground handlers at over 2,800 airports use it.

MBAviation is now working on bringing these improvements outside the boundaries of the airport to facilitate end to end mishandled bag management.
